Pant y Goitre

Local people describe this house as a landmark in the County.
The house itself is Grade 2 listed Georgian, built in 1776 and was owned by the same family for 200 years. It was substantially modified through the years to suit changing family requirements with the addition of columns and an unusual Orangery. Once owned by a curator for Kew, the gardens offer a variety of unusual trees and plants.
Situated in parkland with unimpeded views towards The Sugar Loaf and The Skirrid, the house benefits from having a stretch of the River Usk with fishing that is locally hugely productive. This is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and you may see otter and kingfisher if you are lucky and probably heron as well as several species of dragon and damsel fly. There is a great deal of work being carried out to assist spawning of salmon and brown trout by the Wye and Usk foundation.
There is a beautiful and interesting walk along the river from Caerlon to Brecon if you are a naturalist.
